Quick Overview

2002 has been a year full of surprises for Chateau Musar which look likely to continue….. After four successive years of drought, they had a long, rainy and cold winter lasting until June. This was followed by a mild July and a hot August. The vines took longer to reach maturity than average and the harvest started one week later compared to previous years. The grapes of 2002 were characterised by having a high levels of sugar, acidity and tannin. The maturity level varied from vineyard to vineyard forcing them to be selective in our picking. Fermentation went perfectly but was very slow against all the odds - therefore they totally unexpected. Returning to taste the wines in early November, yet another surprise - much bigger, riper and fuller wines.
