Quick Overview

Grapes were sourced from estate and grower vineyards located in the Rapaura, Fairhall, Renwick and Brancott sub-regions of the Wairau Valley. Free draining, stony soils typify the Rapaura and Renwick areas whilst Fairhall and Brancott are predominantly aged alluvial loams containing some clay. The majority of fruit was grown on a vertical shoot positioned (VSP)trellis with three canes laid down. In 2009, average sauvignon blanc yields were 9.52 Tonnes/hectare (3.85 Tonnes/acre).

Tasting Notes
Pale straw green in colour and enticingly fragrant, the 2011 Sauvignon Blanc offers lifted aromas of ripe stonefruit and juicy citrus with underlying notes of blackcurrant leaf and tomato plant spice. The palate is fine yet succulent, with zesty citrus flavours and fresh acidity. There is an appealing plushness about this wine especially as it leads into a lingering and characteristically crisp finish.
Marlborough - South Island
Marlborough is a unique area. Despite the size of its big international reputation it is quite small in area. Grapes are grown mainly in two relatively small east-west oriented valleys - the Wairau Valley and the Awatere Valley. Within both valleys there are sub regions which can differ widely in both climate and soil. When it comes to viticulture it is the climate and the soil which make Marlborough special. The region is "cool climate". Through the growing and ripening season the days are long. The contours of the coast line tend to swing approaching bad weather away from the wine growing valleys giving Marlborough a reputation for being the sunniest region in New Zealand. Soil types vary from free draining, silty, stony loams to very fine silts which can contain significant amounts of clay. These elements have come together to produce a "wine heaven" on earth.
